About Chocolate Mousse Dessert Recipe

Today I wanted to have a great dessert and I didn’t know what to do. Reading in my cookbook, I saw this great and tasty recipe. How could I forget this!? Without second thoughts, I have made it and as expected, turned out great and delicious. In fact, my family and friends couldn’t wait 4 hours to freeze it up as it should, and I took it out after 2 hours (also delicious, but I recommend letting it 4 hours). With a few ingredients, you can make your own ice-cream to indulge your family or friends. You only need whipping (heavy) cream, chocolate-flavored liqueur (as a variation you can use almond or coffee-flavored liqueur), chocolate-flavored syrup, and crushed cookies or chopped nuts, if desired. Besides the fact that this dessert can be made and served during hot summer days, it can be stored for up to two months in the freezer.

Can I freeze or refrigerate Chocolate Mousse?

There are a lot of questions on the internet about the refrigeration of this wonderful dessert. Besides the fact it is recommended to refrigerate 1-hour after preparation is done, usually, Chocolate Mousse can also be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. My recipe doesn’t contain eggs, and this means it can be stored for longer (refrigerated for up to 10 days).

As for freezing this dessert, I recommend keeping it in your freezer for up to 3 months (maximum). Because of the whipping cream and other sugary ingredients, chocolate moose will not freeze 100%. After you take it out from the freezer, thaw it at room temperature for 3-4 hours and then serve, or thaw it overnight in your refrigerator and serve the next day.

Another great idea for the chocolate mouse is that can be served immediately after taken from the freezer, like ice cream. But for this idea to be followed, portion the dessert into small pieces before freezing it.

Can I add fruits?

The best thing about my recipe for chocolate mousse is that you can add whatever fruit you like. To do that, finely cut the fruits before adding them. It works well with apples, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, oranges, and avocados. ← If your favorite fruit isn’t shown there, just add it and see if you like it. Each of us has different tastes, and it is important to just follow your heart… and taste buds!

Moreover, don’t limit the dessert only to fruits, you can also add crumbled cookies, nuts, M&Ms, or crackers. Make your own chocolate mousse. That’s why I kept the recipe simple (only a few ingredients and steps).

Notes and Tips

  1. Essential Equipment: electric mixer or hand beater; 9-inch square pan.
  2. The whipping cream will beat up more easily if the bowl and mixer beaters are chilled in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes before.
  3. The liqueur keeps this dessert from freezing totally solid. That’s why the chocolate mousse can be served immediately after taking it out from the freezer.
