About Cheesy Mornay Macaroni Pasta & Tuna Recipe

Cheesy Mornay Macaroni Pasta & Tuna is my way of transforming good meals in great ones by obtaining the best combination and balanced flavors. I experimented with different ingredients and amounts until I found the perfect combo. Cheesy Mornay Macaroni Pasta & Tuna can be prepared for dinner, especially if you have 4-6 family members at the table.

If you have a bigger family, just adjust the serving size by pushing “+” from the ingredients header.

Returning to the recipe, I chose to be cheesy for a better flavor, but cannot be prepared if you are on a weight-loss diet (unfortunately, it has a bit too much fat), but you won’t gain weight either. An interesting fact for Cheesy Mornay Macaroni Pasta & Tuna is that I use low-fat milk and low-fat cream to make it as light as possible without changing the taste. This recipe can be made also gluten-free by using gluten-free pasta and gluten-free flour.

How can I decide when it is best to cook Cheesy Mornay Macaroni Pasta & Tuna?

Besides the fact we all have our way of doing things, generally speaking, the Cheesy Mornay Macaroni Pasta & Tuna can be made during summer or autumn. You can also decide to prepare it if you need to cook something great in less than an hour. To give an example, I cook it only during the summer season, before my husband come from work and wants to eat something “satiating” and tasty. There is no general rule, it only depends on the cooking traditions within your family.

Can I substitute the tuna? I don’t like it!

I get this question a lot. There are people who simply don’t like the taste of tune, in any meal. To keep the recipe “fishy”, substitute the tuna with salmon. If you buy salmon fillets, chop it finely as it was tuna. The taste and flavor of the dish will change radically, but it doesn’t mean is bad. Another variation is to substitute the tuna with chicken meat, this time by cutting the poultry into cubes, not finely chopped. Oh, here’s an idea: try this recipe three times with these variations also, and let me know how you liked it.

Can I substitute the Macaroni Pasta?

Of course, you can. If the meat can be substituted, why not also substitute the macaroni pasta? In this section, you can substitute the macaroni with any kind of ridged penne (penne rigate). Or simply said, substitute with fusilli, cannelloni, lunache, or gemelly pasta. By substituting the macaroni, the timings will change, also the taste and cooking style. For me, macaroni is the best option for this recipe (kept as it is shown here).

Can I prepare ahead with one day?

You can prepare ahead of Mornay Macaroni Pasta & Tuna to the point you need to bake it (last step). After you have taken all the steps except the last one, leave it at room temperature for 5 minutes and put it in the refrigerator. Take it out of the fridge the next day and put it in the oven.

Can I freeze or refrigerate the Mornay macaroni pasta with tuna?

Yes, you can. To freeze the Mornay macaroni pasta with tuna, let it cool for 20-30 minutes after baking and wrap it up with aluminum foil. Keep it in your freezer for up to 1 month (can be kept more, but the taste will change a bit). To refrigerate the dish, just let it cool for 30 minutes and put it in the refrigerator. It can be kept for up to 4-5 days.
