Mashed Potatoes is a very simple dish, but great with Lamb Meat and Mediterranean herbs (packed). This recipe has its origins in Greek Cuisine, a cuisine that a lot of people omit to look into. As we all like Souvlaki or Gyros, Greek salad, Tzatziki, or use olive oil in our recipes (yes, olive oil has its origin in Greece), this simple mashed potatoes with Lamb is incredible as this cuisine is.

About Mashed Potatoes with Lamb Meat

Mashed Potatoes with Lamb Meat is a simple recipe, right? If it is so simple, you will find it on many cooking websites, but why this is happening? Why do great cooks add it to their online cookbook? The answer is very simple: we love recipes with beef, or we’re accustomed to pork or chicken, but most cooks know how great and important is the lamb meat even for simple recipes. Do not omit this kind of meat, especially if you want a simple dish (like this one). Another reason is that we, Americans, omit the lamb almost 93.7% from their cookings… too bad for us :(. Today I wanted to have a simple dish of mashed potatoes and I remembered the importance of lamb meat. Therefore, I made this “WoW” mashed potatoes with lamb, rosemary, oregano, and Mediterranean herbs pack (preferably Greek brand). Anyway, the taste is greater than you can imagine, but you’ll trust me only after you’ll prepare it. Moreover, to reduce the cost of the meal, try a different cut of lamb such as lamb chops.

What goes well with mashed potatoes & lamb meat?

To complete the meal, serve with greens or mixed seasonal vegetables. You can choose a simple salad such as tomatoes, cucumber, and green onion (you can also sprinkle some cheese on it), or choose not to have a salad at all. For a simple recipe like this one, I cannot think a better dish to go with than salad, therefore, nothing else goes well with the mashed potatoes & lamb meat.

Why choosing Greek Cuisine (part of Mediterranean Cuisine)?

The information regarding the history of a cuisine written in a recipe’s body is great if you want to know what you’re cooking. As I know the modern Greek cuisine (and I can speak about it one whole day), I’ll let Wikipedia fill the origins of it (shown below).

Greek cuisine has a culinary tradition of some 4,000 years and is a part of the history and the culture of Greece. Its flavors change with the season and its geography. Greek cookery, historically a forerunner of Western cuisine, spread its culinary influence, via ancient Rome, throughout Europe and beyond. It has influences from the different people’s cuisine the Greeks have interacted with over the centuries, as evidenced by several types of sweets and cooked foods. Greece has an ancient culinary tradition dating back several millennia, and over the centuries Greek cuisine has evolved and absorbed numerous influences and influenced many cuisines itself. Many dishes entered during the Ottoman era from the Levant and other near-eastern staples, especially these that came to prominence and as broader consumption in Ottoman cuisine namely: tzatziki, yuvarlakia, kofta, boureki, baklava and more.

What makes this recipe a Greek specialty?

I know, the recipe resembles a lot with the American dish, but besides the lamb meat (as I said, we are accustomed to beef, pork or chicken with mashed potatoes), I have added some herbs (Mediterranean ones), changing this way the flavor of it. I have balanced the amount of each herb to comply with the American taste, but still remaining a Greek specialty.
