About Creamy Chicken with Dumplings Recipe
The ingredients aren’t so easy to gather, but if you have a Hypermarket nearby, go there instead of your local mini-medium store. I recommend this because you cannot find everywhere 1 (1 ounce) envelope chicken gravy mix, chopped fresh marjoram or dried marjoram leaves, and Bisquick® Original baking mix. This recipe is inspired by Betty Crocker cookbook, having a great taste with creamy composition. I love Betty Crocker recipes, but also I like to change them a bit, playing with the ingredients until I have achieved the perfect balance. Depending on every person’s taste, some of you will like my changes, some will like the original recipes without changing a thing. The Creamy Chicken with Dumplings recipe showed below isn’t changed due to its original ingredients sold by General Mills (Betty Crocker brand).
What is good with chicken and dumplings?
If you want something else with this soup, you can try my special cornbread recipe or, keep it simple, some garlic bread to “spice” it up. Or, you can keep it classic and eat it with croutons.
Freezing and unfreezing chicken with dumplings soup
You can freeze the chicken & dumplings soup for up to 4 months. put it in small containers or small bags before freezing.
To unfreeze it, it will be better if you let them completely thaw out before reheating either in a saucepan on low heat or in a microwave oven. Microwaving will change the texture of the dumpling somewhat because of the rapid heat expansion as it heats.
Another option for reheating is to use a food saver bag and then you can drop the unopened bag into a pot of boiling water. Be sure your dumplings are completely warm and then open the bag carefully as steam will build up inside.
How to refrigerate the dumplings and chicken soup, and for how long
Store chicken and dumplings soup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. But just like any other recipe with cooked meat, I would advise eating the soup within the first 3-4 days.
To reheat, you can microwave it by transferring individual servings to a microwave-safe dish and microwave for 2 minutes; stir around the dumplings, then continue to microwave for 30-second intervals, if needed.
Health benefits and weight-loss
With carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and chicken breasts, you’ll have a lot of vitamins and minerals, as well a balanced meal with low-carbs, low-fat, and low-calorie features. It can also be used for slimming purposes, especially if you want to feel full longer (thanks to the chicken and dumplings).
Notes and Tips
- Essential Equipment: Dutch oven (about 4-quart size) or 3-quart saucepan.
- You can substitute 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken thighs for the chicken breast halves.
- For recipe’s success, mix the dumpling dough only until the baking mix and milk form a soft dough… overmixing will cause tough dumplings.
