About Vegetarian Zucchini & Tuna Pie Recipe
This recipe does not belong to me entirely, I just added carrot and extra parmesan (sprinkled at the end), but this doesn’t mean the dish isn’t delicious. The recipe is with self-rising flour, but below you’ll also find the recipe for homemade self-rising flour. Regarding the Vegetarian Zucchini and Tuna Pie, it is delicious, and you can spoil yourself or your family with it. And if that wasn’t enough, you can also enjoy the weight-loss, detox, and health benefits included along with this great meal. I prepare it for lunch, and in some cases, I use it as a side dish for dinner. Depending on your time of cooking, I recommend making the self-rising flour at home instead of buying it… but if you want to reduce the time spent in the kitchen, you can buy it directly from your local market.
Vegetarian Zucchini and Tuna Pie is great for Weight-loss diets and detox
As you know, almost all vegetarian recipes are great also for weight-loss diets and some for detox. This is the case for Zucchini & Tuna Pie because of zucchini and carrots, two ingredients that bring great health benefits, help us lose weight and help our body to start a detox (even if one of the ingredients is flour). From time to time, especially during the summer season, my family and I have a whole week with a detox diet and another two weeks with a weight-loss program. Sometimes, I prepare meals that include both features, and one of the recipes is this Vegetarian Zucchini and Tuna Pie. If you want something that goes well with this dish and is also great for detox and weight loss, try my Vegan Tuscan Bean Stew. Add them both to your meal plan on the same day.
Vegetarian Zucchini and Tuna Pie brings great health benefits
As for health benefits, Zucchini contains a diversity of vitamins and minerals. Cooked zucchini is especially high in vitamin A, Fiber, Manganese, Vitamin C, Potassium, Magnesium, Vitamin K, Folate, Copper, Phosphorus, Vitamin B6, Thiamine, iron, calcium, zinc, and B vitamins. Zucchini has also been used in old medicine to treat colds, aches, and various health conditions. Nowadays, besides the fact it is categorized as a fruit rather than a veggie, it is not used as a medicine! As for Tuna, it is heart-friendly, lowers blood pressure, improves the immune system, it is great for weight loss diets, strengthens your bones, it improves your skin health, prevents the risk of cancer, provides energy, and most important: tuna is rich in omega-3 fatty acids!
Can I substitute the tuna? I don’t like it!
A lot of my users asked this question because they simply don’t like the taste of tuna, in any meal. To keep the recipe “fishy”, substitute the tuna with salmon. If you buy salmon fillets, chop it finely as it was tuna. The taste and flavor of the dish will change radically, but it doesn’t mean is a bad choice.
Homemade Self-Rising Flour
Self-rising flour is a softer, lower protein version of all-purpose flour with already added baking powder and salt. To make this homemade self-rising flour, you only need 10 minutes and 1 cup (120g) All-Purpose Flour, 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. There is one step for this type of flour: Whisk all of the ingredients together in a bowl, then use it as directed in this recipe.
